It has come to my attention that a few of my friends do NOT like it when they’re on a date and a guy asks, “Can I kiss you?” or even just says, “I’d like to kiss you now.” I’ve actually heard that from various women over the years, that a guy shouldn’t ask or say anything about it beforehand, he should just do it. But why? I guess for some women, asking makes him seem like a wimp or something, or it makes the moment more awkward, or ruins the moment. But I don’t mind at all — in fact, I think it’s kind of sweet.

I also think that I personally do better with a bit of a warning. One of the first guys I met on Match.com last year was saying good-bye to me at Port Authority Bus Terminal after our first date, and after we hugged good-bye, I stepped away, he got this weird look in his eyes, and suddenly he was kissing me. I was VERY caught off guard, to say the least. It was the middle of the day (it had been a lunch date), and believe me, Port Authority is hardly the most romantic spot in the world, so I’m not sure what moment he was caught up in. But here’s the best part: after that, he never called me again! One of my friends suggested he was testing to see if there was chemistry and decided there wasn’t any. But maybe there would have been, if I’d been a little prepared!

eHarmony has ‘Free Communication Weekends’ every now and then. Basically non paying members can log into their account and start writing their matches free of charge. Great, right? Wrong. The thing is eHarmony won’t let you view any profile photos. So, yes, you can email to your hearts (?!) content but you can’t see who you are writing to. Fair enough, I suppose: If you’re too cheap to pay for the service why should you get it for free. However, they make such a big deal about the ‘Free Communication Weekend’ that you would figure you could see who you are writing to. This is also eHarmony’s tactic when they give you your free Personality Profile and free viewing of your matches (when you sign up). Yes, this is all true, however you can’t see any photos of your matches. eHarmony makes you pay to see the photos. Let’s be honest here: appearances matter, and appearance is what eHarmony rips out until you pay. Again, I understand that people should pay for a service and not simply leach on, but the issue I have is that eHarmony markets in such a manner that you figure if you can view your matches that you would be able to see the photos as well. Every ‘regular’ database-search type dating site lets you view at least one photo of the person before you slap down your credit card to pay to communicate. I figure that’s the least eHarmony can do. Anyway, apparently it’s a ‘Free Communication Weekend’ in Canada right now. Enjoy writing to all those people you have no idea what they look like.

Unless you wear heavy black nerdy eyeglasses, chances are everyone sees your eyebrows, and you may be concerned if you do not have perfect eyebrows. There are lots of things you can do to shape your eyebrows, either naturally or with makeup. You can use tweezers if they are too thick or they have different shapes from side to side. Sometimes eyebrow shapes are different from side to side, so if you want yours to be matched, choose the thicker one to pluck match the thinner one. If your eyebrows are thin or not prominent, use an eyebrow pencil judicially to highlight them. An eyebrow pencil also works well with thinning eyebrows to give them a little more bulk. You can use an eyebrow stencil to outline the shape you want with the eyebrow pencil. Some women simply do nothing for their eyebrows; they accept what they were born with, and don’t worry about them. These women generally have great looking eyebrows, and do not have to augment or decrease their natural eyebrows to have match or be seen. They are the lucky ones.
